Housing Assistant

The Housing Assistant provides administration support to housing officers or managers, assisting clients with finding suitable housing options, processing applications, managing tenant information, and handling inquiries relate to rent properties, often working with a social services agency, private company, or income, scheduling property viewings, and maintaining accurate housing records.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform Client intake and screening, including interviewing potential tenants to gather necessary information, verify eligibility criteria based on income and housing needs, and access housing suitability
  • Assist and help coordinator the Application processing Review Housing applications collect supporting documentation, and input data into a housing management system.
  • will assist with property management for all rental units, including scheduled property viewings, conduct inspections and coordinate move-in/out procedures
  • responsible for collecting rent, monitoring rent payments, following up on overdue accounts, and managing tenant arrears.
  • respond to tenant inquiries regarding maintenance issues, lease agreements, and policy changes.
  • maintain accurate housing records, update tenant information, and generate reports as needed
  • answer phone calls, manage email correspondence, file documents and maintain office systems.

Credential & Experience

  • 2-year post-secondary diploma

Qualifications, Knowledge and Other Skills

  • Knowledge and awareness of Indigenous Cultures, Friendship Centres and urban issues.
  • Strong Organizing, Planning and coordinating skills. Ability to communicate effectively using tact and diplomacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully establish and maintain respectful, productive and cooperative working relationships.
  • Proven experience in resolving conflicts and using good problem -solving and judgment skills.
  • Ability to organize work, set priorities and provide excellent client service.
  • Strong knowledge of Conayt's programs and services.
  • Knowledge of the Residential Tenancy Act, Canada Mortgage & Housing and Indian and Norther Affairs Canada Housing programs.
  • Ability to calculate rent using strong mathematical skills.
  • Ability to work in a cross-cultural setting.
  • Strong ethics and knowledge of confidentiality
  • Flexible, committed and enthusiastic.
  • Willing to continuously upgrade their skills and knowledge.

Special Requirements

  • Able to clear an RCMP record check
  • BC Driver's license free of encumbrances

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $22.00-$26.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
