Aboriginal Head Start Early Childhood Educator Infant/Toddler Lead Teacher

Conayt Aboriginal Head Start is looking for reliable, creative, and nurturing individuals to join our wonderful team of Early Childhood Educators. We are ideally looking for Early Childhood Educator I/T.  The successful candidate must have a passion for working with children and thrive in a team environment.

General Responsibilities:

Ø  Experience developing and delivering age-appropriate children’s programming designed to meet their spiritual, emotional, intellectual, and physical needs of the child that empowers them to develop a sense of self and a connection with the Aboriginal/Metis community on a daily basis

Ø  Ensuring safe and active supervision of children at all times

Ø  Working with team, including with children, parents, staff and elders

Ø  Understanding of social, economic, and political issues affecting Aboriginal/ Metis communities

Ø  Firsthand knowledge of Aboriginal/Metis philosophies and values of varied culture and traditions

Ø  Comprehensive understanding of BC’s Child Care Licensing Regulations/Aboriginal Head Start Childcare Principals and Guidelines

Ø  Demonstrated Goal setting, critical thinking, problem solving and organization skills

Ø  Ability to comply with policies and procedures regarding privacy, confidentiality, record keeping, and reporting

Ø  Directing staff, volunteers and placement students

Ø  Responsible for the constant supervision, safety, and well-being in a classroom of students and volunteers

Ø  Plans and implements developmentally appropriate curriculum which includes activities, and experiences for children between the ages of newborn- 5 years of ages, focusing on the age range of children I the room you are positioned for

Ø  May be required to be one of two staff on duty until the last child is picked up from centre

Ø  Participate in maintaining accurate and complete records and other administrative tasks

 

 Qualifications:

Ø  Minimum Valid ECE/IT Certificate (formerly known as License to Practice)

Ø  Minimum 2+ years of experience in related field

Ø  Valid First-Aid/CPR certification and Food Safe level 1 or willing to obtain

Ø  Valid Driver’s License

Ø  Resume with 2 or more professional employment related references

Ø  Compliance with Conayt Friendship Society COVID-19 Vaccination Policy

Ø  Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with children, parents, and co-workers and ensure consistent positive, professional communications with them

Ø  Fluent in knowledge of child-care development, guidance and discipline, routines, and transitions

Ø  Strong work ethic: self-motivated individual who has initiative

Ø  Ability to assist with set up of classroom to facilitate a positive, cultural, learning environment for children

Ø  Ability to manage time efficiently and multi-task in a dynamic environment

Ø  Track record of being able to work collaboratively in a team, but also able to work independently with initiative

Ø  Creative and independent problem solver 

SALARY: $27.00 per hour 

 

The successful candidate must pass a Criminal Record Check. As per section 16 of the Federal Charter of Human Rights Act, preference will be given to applicants of Aboriginal Ancestry.
