Youth Cultural & Recreational Coordinator

 

 

Conayt Friendship Society is looking for a qualified and motivated individual for the position of Youth Cultural & Recreational Coordinator. This position is full time. The Youth Cultural & Recreational Coordinator is responsible for planning and delivery of educational, recreational, cultural, mentoring, and support activities offered by Conayt Friendship Society’s Cultural Programs. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Youth Cultural & Recreational Coordinator ensures the program remains efficient, effective, and accountable to the Society, its funding partners, and stakeholders. 

 

General Responsibilities: 

  • Advise the Executive Director relative to the needs and opportunities for the program
  • Implement changes and improvements within delegated authority 
  • Write or direct the preparation of activity 
  • Attend and participate in training courses, performance reviews, and staff development programs when made available, recommended and/or required. 
  • Maintain professional standards of conduct, performance, and personal appearance 
  • Reflect the mission, values, and goals of the Society always

 

Qualifications: 

  • 2-year Post-Secondary Diploma in related field or equivalent experience
  • Or 2-3 years job related experience 
  • Food Safe, Basic First Aid; But not a must
  • Knowledge, awareness of Aboriginal cultures, Friendship Centres and urban issues
  • Knowledge of a variety of youth sports and fitness programs for young youth participants 
  • Computer application skills, strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Communications, problem-solving, negotiating, decision making, and judgement skills
  • Works well with others; treat people with dignity & respect; promote confidence
  • Deal pleasantly and effectively with a wide range of people of different ages and cultures
  • Maintain trust and confidentiality 
  • Deal effectively with emergency situations
  • Maintain clean and accurate records
  • Maintain files on youth participants

The successful candidate must pass a Criminal Record Check. As per section 16 of the Federal Charter of Human Rights Act, preference will be given to applicants of Aboriginal Ancestry.
