Aboriginal Head Start Program Cook / Custodian

Conayt Friendship Society is looking for a qualified and motivated individual for the position of Aboriginal Head Start Cook/Custodian. This position is a part-time position (4 hours a day) 20 hours per week. 

 

Cooking for: 28 Children (12 ages 0-3; 16 ages 3-6)

Start: As soon as possible 

WAGE: $20.00/hr. 

 

General Responsibilities: 

  • Provide well balanced nutritional meals adhering to Health Regulations, Aboriginal Head Start policies and procedures
  • Cook/prepare meals and snacks according to Canada’s Food Guide- First Nations, Inuit and Metis (Daily)
  • Responsible to be informed and accommodating of food allergies and special medical and dietary requirements of the centre children
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized kitchen; endure that the cleaning schedule are followed daily
  • Maintain a working environment that meets or exceeds all requirements from the Health Department and Conayt Aboriginal Head Start Standings
  • Order and purchase food and kitchen supplies within approved budget
  • Prepare and post weekly menu providing menu information for parents and other teachers
  • Assist and complete reports as needed
  • Attend workshops, training, conferences and staff meetings as required
  • Light janitorial duties as required
  • Assume other duties as required 

Qualifications: 

  • First-Aid/CPR certification
  • Valid Food Safe Level 1 Certificate
  • Valid Driver’s License with reliable transportation
  • 1-2 years’ experience, preferably cooking for large groups of people
  • Compliance with Conayt Friendship Society COVID-19 Vaccination Policy
  • Familiar with the Child Care and Early learning act, Canada’s food guide, and the Health and Sanitary regulations, Aboriginal Head Start, and Child Licensing
  • At least 3 references
  • Knowledge of surrounding language and culture

The successful candidate must pass a Criminal Record Check. As per section 16 of the Federal Charter of Human Rights Act, preference will be given to applicants of Aboriginal Ancestry.
